The raw material is the wool of a specific type of sheep, known for its small size and great strength. Making these rugs requires exceptional craftsmanship, passed down from generation to generation, as well as a great deal of patience. It takes 1 to 4 months – depending on the size of the rug – to make each of these unique pieces. Beni Ourain is the name of the collective of 17 different Berber tribes living in the Atlas Mountains. These are thick and soft rugs that are highly sought after by designers and architects. They are usually white or cream with black or brown geometric patterns. To care for a Berber rug, it is advisable to dust the rug regularly and carefully. Preferably choose a vacuum cleaner with a soft nozzle. In case of stains, quickly dab with absorbent paper, possibly using baking soda, before finishing the treatment with a vacuum cleaner.
